One of the main downsides of AM, which in many other respects is awesome, is that it can be, yeah, quite stressful. We’re risking significant sums of money on campaigns which can dry up at the drop of a hat, and cash returns are never guaranteed.

Whether you’re watching your budget go into losing campaigns and wondering when you’ll find a success, or grinding hard on a huge success and praying that it won’t vanish, there’s plenty of sources of stress.

And excessive stress is bad for you. Like, really bad for you.

So how do you fix it?

Reframing

One of the most powerful anxiety-reduction techniques is one that affiliates are already very familiar with.

You’ll have seen a conversation on STM between a newbie and a more experienced affiliate, no doubt, where the new affiliate complains about “losing” lots of money, and the more experienced affiliate says something like “don’t think about it like that! It’s not “losing” money, it’s investing in data.”

That’s reframing. It’s a highly successful Cognitive Behavioural Therapy technique that is proven to have major positive effects on both depression and anxiety. Essentially, it’s the process of looking at the situation that’s stressing you out, and questioning if there’s another way to describe that situation which is both more positive and more accurate.
