web design resources?

Hi all,
I have no intention of becoming a web designer but do want to know how it basically works, e.g. from touring the user interface, to building an actual website mockup from
start to finish using Photoshop, and then after getting the mockup done, how to implement it using a CMS like wordpress or joomla etc.

Could anyone please recommend some useful resources?
