How to find a mentor?

Yo, I’ve been reading a lot about self improvement, business, mindset etc. and it is always suggested to find a mentor. But how this actually works?

I follow and talk to a lot of people I really admire for what they achieved, but are this my mentors already?

Or do I really have somekind of an agreement with a mentor, and return him a cut of my profit as a thank you?

I am a bit confused how this actually works.
