There is a saying that tells to “Remember that when you hit the bottom, there is no other way left to go but up”. I was at the bottom, it took me a while to understand this, to fight it, finally accept it and move forward. I wrote about my story in this post.

When I first began reading the guidelines in the forum, the success stories, the case studies, I saw the huge potential that affiliate marketing is offering for the people who master the principles. The things I read in this forum were one of my key motivators to decline big job offers in my industry that would have paid a pretty decent salary considering my experience, I wanted to keep my freedom and build, again, my own opportunities.

I decided to follow the basics, set up my first campaigns, learn to manage at least one traffic source, to optimize the ads, to rotate landers and measure conversions. I had a big motivation to do this fast, basically needed to cover my living expenses, and I did set up my first campaign in a dating niche, focusing on sourcing traffic in my market instead of the big countries like UK or US.

That first campaign went well, I got ROI positive some of the days, although for the week I had it running I was almost making break-even. My problem was that it took me too long to optimize my ads since unfortunately, for Spain is hard to spend more than 10 USD per day in POF ads even if your target is quite broad, I concluded that there are just not enough active users for optimizing and of course, for scaling afterwards.
